On Friday, Maldives Correctional Service (MSC), revealed that they have commenced classes for the sixth batch of their course; ‘Certificate 01 In House Wiring & Electrician’ for detainees and prison officers at Maafushi Prison. The course is taught by instructors from MCA’s Institute Of Correctional Studies.
In the course which will be conducted for a span of 5-weeks, a total of 12 detainees and 15 prison officers are taking part. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will have attained a Level One certification which is approved by the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA).
During the course, participants will be taught basic electrical wiring. They will also be taught how to use tools used for wiring purposes. In addition to this, they will also be instructed well on the important things to keep in mind when working with electricity as well as cautionary measures. More importantly, by the time detainees leave imprisonment, they would have the skills to conduct electric wiring at houses and also other buildings.
Maldives Correctional Service (MSC) often conducts educational courses and training programs targeted towards detainees as it is shown to reduce recidivism which translates into reductions in crime in addition to facilitating a chance for ex-convicts to return to the community as responsible and respectable citizens following incarceration.
