Ranfaru Lagoon Officially Added to Maalhos

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially included Alifu Alifu Ranfaru Lagoon as part of Alifu Alifu Maalhos, fulfilling a promise made to the local community.

The decision was formalised with Presidential Decree No. 20/2025, issued under Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010).

With this change, Ranfaru Lagoon is now recognised as part of the Maldives' inhabited islands and officially linked to Alifu Alifu Maalhos. The appendix of Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 has also been updated to reflect this inclusion.

This administrative decision follows a pledge made by President Muizzu during his visit to several islands in Alifu Alifu and Kaafu Atoll in December 2024. The commitment was given during meetings with the Maalhos Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee.
