The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow Alert from Haa Alif Atoll to Kaafu Atoll, warning of worsening weather from 7:30am to 1:30pm. Winds in these areas are expected to range between 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts possibly reaching up to 50 miles per hour.
A White Alert was also announced from Alif Alif Atoll to Laamu Atoll during the same period. These regions may experience winds between 19 to 24 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour.
Strong winds and rough seas are expected throughout the day. The alerts follow a stretch of unstable weather brought on by the peak of the southwest monsoon, which has affected much of the country over the past week.
Similar alerts were also issued for northern and central atolls yesterday.
While the MET expects conditions to improve from tomorrow onwards, caution is being advised for all sea travel, especially in the affected regions.
