Maldives Sees Strong Growth in Tourism Numbers

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have seen a significant increase over the past two months, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

The recent Tourism Update Report shows that an average of 6,015 tourists arrived in the country each day, a notable jump from around 4,000 daily arrivals in May and June. By the end of July, the Maldives had welcomed a total of 1.2 million visitors so far this year, marking a 9.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

July played a key role in this growth, with tourist arrivals crossing 180,000 for the month and more than compensating for the slowdown in May and June.
China remains the top source market with over 188,000 tourists, followed by Russia with more than 152,000 and the United Kingdom with just over 120,000 visitors.

Most tourists continue to prefer staying in resorts, which hosted 73.1 percent of visitors. Guesthouses followed with 22 percent, while tourist hotels accounted for 2.7 percent.
The government aims to attract 2.3 million tourists by the end of the year.
