The Maldives and the Commonwealth of Dominica have officially signed a bilateral visa waiver agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to travel visa-free for stays of up to 30 days.
The agreement was signed at the Maldives' Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. Representing the Maldives was Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative to the UN, while Dominica was represented by Ambassador Philbert Aaron.
According to the Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this new agreement is part of a broader strategy to expand international partnerships, ease travel for Maldivians, and boost cultural and diplomatic cooperation.
With this deal, Dominica joins over 90 countries and territories that offer Maldivians visa-free, visa-on-arrival, or e-visa access. These include countries like India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and other island nations across the Caribbean and Pacific.
The ministry emphasized that this move highlights both nations’ commitment to strengthening people-to-people connections and working together more closely at the international level, particularly through platforms like the United Nations.
Though current travel between the two nations is limited, officials believe the agreement will pave the way for greater exchange in tourism, education, and culture in the future.
