The Maldives Zakat Fund has spent more than USD 544,000 on medical treatment for underprivileged individuals in the past six months, according to figures released by the Maldives Zakat House.
A total of 590 people received financial support for healthcare during this time. The largest portion went to cancer treatment, with over USD 149,000 spent on patients battling the disease.
The monthly medical spending peaked in May, with over USD 252,000 disbursed, while January and February saw just under USD 50,000 each.
Beyond healthcare, the Fund also supported other areas of need. Around USD 7,132 was used to assist with basic necessities for those in need. Over USD 272,000 was allocated for Zakat administration costs.
The Zakat Fund also contributed more than USD 149,000 to religious education, particularly Quran memorisation, under the Fi Sabilillah component. An additional USD 107,000 was spent to support various religious programs.
