President Muizzu’s Singapore Visit Marks New Chapter in Bilateral Ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have concluded their first State visit to Singapore, marking a significant step in strengthening Maldives–Singapore relations. Held from 29 June to 2 July, the visit was made at the invitation of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The visit featured high-level meetings, new cooperation agreements, and symbolic moments reflecting long-standing diplomatic ties. At the National Orchid Garden, a hybrid orchid was named after the President and First Lady, continuing Singapore’s tradition of honouring visiting dignitaries.

President Muizzu held talks with President Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, focusing on deepening bilateral relations. Several Memoranda of Understanding were signed, covering areas such as capacity-building, environmental initiatives, education, and collaboration with the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.
Two major agreements were also signed during the visit — one with Henley & Partners for a Residence by Investment Programme, and another with APM SPV Pvt. Ltd. for Project Solar City.

As the Maldives and Singapore celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations this year, President Muizzu presented a commemorative book to his Singaporean counterpart, and the two leaders unveiled special anniversary stamps.

The Maldives–Singapore Business Forum, attended by over 200 business leaders, was a key highlight, promoting investment opportunities aligned with the Maldives’ Vision 2040.
The visit also included tours of institutions such as the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Tuas Port, and the Institute of Technical Education, reflecting a shared focus on development and innovation.
