Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) is the nation’s leading marine and civil constructor. As they celebrated their 40th-anniversary last year, it was also deemed as the most successful year in the company’s history, having completed a whopping amount of 34 projects.
On Tuesday, the company was contracted for yet another project by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure; Reclamation and Harbor Development of the island, Felivaru in Lhaviyani Atoll. The project is said to be worth a total of MVR 113 million and will involve work on dredging and reclaiming an area of 179,780.40 cubic meters, and construction of a 218.9-meter rock boulder breakwater, 574.6 meters of sheet pile, and 264.8 meters of rock boulder revetment, as well as the installation of 2,466 square meters of pavement. As per the agreement, MTCC must complete the project in the span of one year.
The project is partly funded through the Indian government’s financial assistance. It is also in combination with a project to increase the capacity of cold storage in Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company’s (MIFCO) fish factory in the island in addition to one regarding the improvement of the harbor area of the island. It is anticipated that the completion of the project would ease multiple challenges faced by local fishermen currently.
