Only 5 of 576 Audits Finalised for 2024 So Far

The Auditor General’s Office (AGO) has announced that 576 audits are scheduled for 2024, but only five have been finalized so far. As shared with Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, 330 of these audits are related to previous years. Of those, 57 reports are complete, 173 are being prepared, and 106 are still underway.

The 2024 audits cover eight categories, including 210 financial and compliance audits, 188 local council audits, and 84 audits of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). However, progress is slow—only four SOE audit reports have been completed and made public.
Assistant Auditor General Ibrahim Fazeel stated that delays in financial statement submissions are a key issue. Only 16 SOEs met the deadline, with three more submitting later, while 10 have not submitted at all. The PCB has been informed of this non-compliance.

Local council audits are also progressing slowly. Just 16 reports are finalized, with 92 in preparation and 80 still under review. Fazeel noted that incomplete or inaccurate documentation continues to delay audit work across the board.
