The Maldives is keeping a close eye on the growing tensions in the Middle East, according to Tourism and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim. In a post on X, the minister confirmed that the situation is being monitored in collaboration with key authorities and tourism stakeholders.
The conflict escalated after Iran launched attacks on U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq. In response, several Middle Eastern countries temporarily shut down parts of their airspace and halted some flights.
Minister Thoriq stressed that the safety and security of all tourists remains a top priority. He also noted that the Maldives continues to maintain strong ties with the Middle East, which is a key market for the country’s tourism sector.
From January to May this year, the Maldives welcomed 28,640 tourists from Middle Eastern countries — a 3.2% increase compared to 27,742 during the same period last year.
The rise in tensions follows recent military actions between Iran, the U.S., and Israel. The situation remains fluid, and authorities in the Maldives continue to assess any potential impact on travel and tourism.
