President Muizzu Calls for Digital Growth to Boost Maldives’ Global Reach

Marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on 17 May, President Mohamed Muizzu called for the strategic use of global communication technology to enhance the Maldives' international standing and economic growth.

In a message shared on social media, President Muizzu emphasized the importance of embracing advancements in telecommunications to strengthen the country’s position as a leading tourist destination and to broaden revenue opportunities. He stressed that digital infrastructure must be effectively used to unlock the full potential of the nation’s economy.

This year’s theme, “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation,” highlights the need to ensure equal access to digital tools and close the gender gap in tech. The day also marks the 160th anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), recognized globally since 1969.

President Muizzu acknowledged the vital role of communication professionals across the Maldives. He expressed gratitude for their contributions and reaffirmed his confidence in the sector’s continued progress in shaping the country’s future.
