Heavy Rain in Maldives, Weather to Get Better by Friday

The Maldives is experiencing heavy rain as the MET Office confirms the end of the northeast monsoon, known locally as 'Iruvai', and the arrival of the southwest monsoon, or 'Hulhan’gu'. According to the MET Office, widespread showers are expected today and tomorrow, with weather likely to improve by Friday.

In Male’ City, non-stop rain since last night has flooded many streets, causing challenges for pedestrians. The MET Office has issued a Yellow Alert from Raa Atoll to Alif Dhaalu Atoll, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms. A White Alert is in effect from Gaafu Alif to Addu, where strong winds reaching up to 40 mph are forecast, and seas are expected to remain rough.
