MACL to Develop Safe Racing Track Between Hulhule and Hulhumale

The government has announced plans to build a dedicated racing track near the highway between Hulhule and Hulhumale. President Mohammed Muizzu confirmed the decision at a press conference, stating that Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been assigned to develop the track.

The track will be constructed by dredging land outside the forested area near the solar panel site along the highway. The President said the site was selected to move racing activities out of residential areas, making them safer.

Previously, during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, a plot in Hulhumale had been allocated to the Racing and Drifting Association. However, the agreement was cancelled in September last year after a fatal collision between a sports car and a motorcycle. Following the incident, police halted all racing activities, and the community criticised the current government for the lack of dedicated space.

President Muizzu said there was no available land in Hulhumale at the time the new decision was being considered. He added that the dredged site offers a safer, more suitable option. The public has been asked to contact MACL for further updates on the project.
