The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has officially opened tenders for the development and operation of tourist resorts in Kelaa (Haa Alifu Atoll) and Kaashidhoo (Kaafu Atoll). This initiative includes the construction of two resorts in Kelaa’s lagoon and one in Kaashidhoo’s lagoon.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential decree, issued on March 29, allocated 325.5 hectares in Kelaa’s lagoon for tourism development, divided into two zones. In Kaashidhoo, 115.21 hectares have been designated for the same purpose. This development initiative is a part of the President’s commitment to drive economic growth in the region.
To assist interested parties, the Ministry has scheduled virtual information sessions on April 15 and May 6. Prospective applicants must submit their intent to participate by the day prior to each session. The deadline for tender submissions is June 5, with application forms available on the Ministry’s official website.
The resort development is part of President Muizzu’s broader economic strategy for the Maldives, following a pledge made during a visit to Kelaa in February 2024 to also launch an agricultural project for the local community.
