President Mohamed Muizzu has issued Presidential Decree No. 6/2025, updating the guidelines for cross-subsidy investment projects in the Maldives. This decree outlines a series of key infrastructure and tourism developments that will support national growth.
Among the highlights, the decree plans the construction of multiple airports across various islands, including HA. Dhidhdhoo, HDh. Makunudhoo, and several others. Additionally, it includes a major airport project in Huvadhu Atoll and two more in Laamu Atoll.
In tourism, the decree endorses the Asseyri project in Laamu Gan and Addu City, alongside the reclamation of 15 hectares of land from K. Giraavaru lagoon for the 'Hope Island' initiative, which will support at-risk children. Another 30 hectares will be used to develop a new Central Prison Complex.
Further measures aim to improve national security and address housing needs through land reclamation in areas like Rasmale’ and Gulhifalhu.
The decree also focuses on infrastructure development, with new roads, utility networks, and causeways planned to link islands such as Th. Veymandoo and Th. Kin’bidhoo, enhancing connectivity across the nation.
Additionally, the decree calls for the establishment of a High-Performance Centre to enhance the Maldives’ national capabilities across various sectors, ensuring sustainable progress and development.
