On 17th December, under the Transitional Justice Act (Act number: 28/2020) the Office of the Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice was formed. This is an act enacted to strengthen democratic governance through ending the culture of impunity and strengthening the rule of law. The Act sanctions investigations into past wrongdoings by state authorities, heads of agencies, or individuals in power, that has resulted in human rights.
The Office of the Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice is an autonomous legal identity mandated bring justice for people whose human rights were violated due to abuse of authority. it was revealed today that the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made three appointments to the Office which are detailed below.
Uz. Abdul Salaam Arif as Chief Ombudsperson: He holds a Master’s Degree in Comparative Laws from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. Previously, he has served as the Vice President of the Tax Appeal Tribunal
Uza. Jihada Anees as Ombudsperson: She majored in International Maritime Law at the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), Malta, for her Masters’ of Laws. Prior to this, she worked as an Assistant State Attorney at the Attorney General’s Office.
Uza.Mariyam Laiza as Ombudsperson: She has a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization from Mahidol University at Thailand. Before the appointment, she was a lecturer at the Maldives National University.
