STELCO has inaugurated its new backup powerhouse, Annex 2, located in Hulhumale’ Phase 2, to prepare for peak electricity demand. The facility, built on a 48,000 sqft land, was completed in an impressive nine days by STELCO staff.
At the inauguration ceremony, STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy praised the efforts of the team, highlighting their swift work to ensure public service continuity. Fahmy acknowledged that while electricity demand may not surge during Ramadan due to school and government office closures, the energy usage is expected to rise following the festive period.
Annex 2 is equipped with 12 generator sets, each with a 1.6-megawatt capacity. Seven of these generators are already operational, while the remaining five are expected to be fully installed by the end of Ramadan.
STELCO assures the public that in case of any power cuts, efforts will be made to restore electricity quickly, ensuring continued service throughout the year. This new powerhouse is a critical step in managing the electricity needs during the peak season ahead.
