In his special address commemorating International Women’s Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the critical role women play in the nation’s survival and progress. He stated that no country can endure without the contributions and support of its women, underscoring their full participation as essential in areas like education, healthcare, governance, business, and economic activities.
The President highlighted that Maldivian women have always been hardworking, dedicated, and committed beyond the household. He described them as the pillars of Maldivian society, playing a key role in maintaining order, safeguarding peace, and contributing to the security and development of the nation. He also acknowledged their essential support in driving national progress.
Dr. Muizzu noted that women make up the majority of service providers in critical sectors like healthcare and education, which are vital to the country’s future. He also celebrated the success of Maldivian female athletes and pointed out that girls outnumber boys in secondary, higher secondary, and university education, with many top-achieving students being female. He expressed optimism about the future of the Maldives, with these accomplishments serving as a positive sign.
The President further emphasized that Islam has played a crucial role in safeguarding women's rights and elevating their status in society. He referenced the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), particularly the emphasis on kindness and compassion towards mothers and wives. In his address, he also honored the contributions of the Mothers of the Believers, the wives of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in recognition of International Women’s Day.
