On the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the National Library of Maldives, they have announced the plans to introduce a new service under the name ‘Makerspace’. In this regard, STEM Space has been appointed as their official partner for this venture whereas both the parties signed an agreement today to jointly work on launching the service and in rendering it.
The ‘Makerspace’ program is aimed to assist young children in their journey to become talented and self-sufficient adults who have harnessed creativity & innovation, critical thinking & problem solving, communication and collaboration skills. As part of the program, an area will be allocated at both the National Library and Children’s Multi-Media Library to share knowledge, expertise and be opinionative through via technological or even other means. The CEO of STEM Space, Dr. Ibrahim Latheef, notes that activities under the program will mainly on learning to problem-solve using whatever available resources.
‘Makerspace’ program will be collaboratively handled by the National Library of Maldives and STEM Space for a period of one year. However, the National Library of Maldives notes that the program will still continue afterwards a well.
In the future, they hope to make the library an environment that is more than just about reading books and rather where other talents and skills are developed at.
