Japan Provides Emergency Support Vehicles to NDMA

The Government of Japan has committed to improving disaster management in the Maldives with a new grant for the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The Grant Contract for “The Project for the Provision of Emergency Support Vehicles in Male’” was signed between Her Excellency Mrs. Ishigami Rumiko, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Mr. Hisan Hassan, Chief Executive of NDMA.

Under the terms of the contract, Japan will provide a grant of USD 89,900 (approximately 1.38 million Maldivian Rufiyaa) to purchase two emergency support vehicles. These vehicles will be used for evacuations and transporting essential items during emergencies, such as floods and fires in the Male’ area.

This grant is part of Japan’s ongoing efforts under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) to improve disaster response capabilities and enhance national resilience. Since 1996, the GGP has supported projects in education, health, transportation, and more, contributing to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
