The National Archives of Maldives has signed a cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia’s National Centre for Archives and Records, aimed at enhancing archiving and record management practices. The agreement was signed on Tuesday at the 'Archives in the Digital Age' conference in Saudi Arabia.
The agreement, signed by Mohamed Amir Ahmed, Director General of the National Archives of Maldives, and Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al-Tamimi, Director General of the Saudi National Centre, marks a significant step in fostering collaboration between the two countries. The main goal of the agreement is to ensure the archiving, indexing, and preservation of important records, including photos, charts, and audiovisual materials.
Furthermore, the agreement will focus on restoring old and damaged items, making them usable again, and facilitating training and knowledge exchange. Specialists will be trained in archiving, and the two institutions will share insights on both traditional and modern archival techniques.
The signing ceremony was attended by Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer and Carlos Serrano Vasquez, Secretary General of the International Council on Archives, highlighting the importance of this partnership in advancing archiving practices.
