Maldives and UAE Renew MoU to Strengthen Government Development

The Maldives and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Experience Exchange on Government Development and Modernisation. The agreement, signed at the World Government Summit 2025, aims to further deepen the two nations' cooperation in enhancing governance and strengthening institutional capacity.

The MoU was signed by Abdulla Fayaz, Chief of Staff at the President’s Office, on behalf of the Maldives, and Abdulla Nasser Lootah, the UAE’s Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs, on behalf of the UAE. The renewal extends the Maldives’ participation in the UAE’s Government Experience Exchange Programme (GEEP), a valuable initiative designed to share best practices and improve governance.

The Maldives has already benefited from GEEP over the past three years, with 128 government officials participating in four training sessions focused on modernising public sector processes. With the renewed agreement, the Maldives will continue to take advantage of the UAE’s leadership in government innovation to enhance the efficiency of its institutions and services. The UAE's experience exchange programme is crucial in fostering collaboration and improving governance in partner nations.
