A Call for Change: President Muizzu Advocates for Women in STEM

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called for greater efforts to enhance the involvement of women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. In a message marking the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, he highlighted the critical role female scientists and technical experts play in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.

The President emphasized that supporting women’s participation in these fields is vital, not only to achieve gender equality but also to drive the nation’s progress. He noted the administration’s initiatives, such as scholarships, student loan schemes, and the free degree program, which aim to break down educational barriers and ensure women have access to opportunities in science.
Dr Muizzu stressed the importance of recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of women in STEM while also providing them with the resources to succeed. He reiterated that empowering women and girls through education and vocational training is essential to fostering innovation.

As part of the nation's broader digital transformation goals, the President expressed ambition to increase the GDP contribution of the digital economy to 15% by 2040, with women and girls playing a pivotal role in achieving this target.

President Dr Muizzu concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where gender bias and discrimination are eliminated, and the achievements of women and girls in science are celebrated.
