Over 100,000 Households Receive Free Dates Ahead of Ramadan

The Islamic Ministry announced on Wednesday that over 100,000 households have already received their portion of the 50 tons of dates gifted by Saudi Arabia in preparation for the upcoming Ramadan.

The distribution of dates began on January 20th and has now been completed for the Greater Malé area. A total of 11,375 packets were delivered to 46,251 households. Additionally, 10,788 packets were sent to local councils for distribution to 56,461 households in other islands, bringing the total number of packets handed out to 22,163.

Although 19 associations have requested dates, none have received any yet, the ministry clarified.
The dates are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with each household receiving one packet. For every 100 households, 25 packets are available. Ramadan is expected to begin on March 1st this year, and the Ministry has ensured that the distribution will continue across other areas as needed.
