Maldives Considers Using National Carrier for Fish Exports to China

The Maldives is exploring the possibility of exporting its fish products to China via the national carrier, Maldivian, using its newly acquired wide-body aircraft. Talks involving the Ministry of Fisheries, MIFCO, Maldives State Shipping, and key industry stakeholders have focused on enhancing export opportunities.

With Maldivian now offering direct flights to three Chinese destinations, the airline’s wide-body aircraft, capable of carrying up to 10 tonnes of cargo per flight, could significantly contribute to state revenues. The move is also expected to benefit local businesses by improving both import and export capabilities.

Additionally, the free trade agreement between the Maldives and China will further support this initiative, helping to expand trade and create new economic prospects for the fisheries sector.
