Maldives National University (MNU) has launched a two-day conference to address the country's food security challenges in the context of climate change. The event, inaugurated by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, is focused on "Climate Resilient Agriculture for Food Security in Maldives" and aims to develop strategies for sustainable agriculture.
Bringing together experts from agriculture, food security, and climate change sectors, the conference looks at vulnerabilities within the Maldives' agricultural systems. The goal is to create a roadmap that implements climate-smart agricultural practices tailored to the country’s unique needs.
Key objectives of the conference include enhancing food security under climate stress, promoting climate-smart technologies, and fostering collaboration to invest in sustainable agricultural practices. MNU also aims to build international partnerships to improve aquaculture and marine fisheries.
This initiative is a vital step in ensuring the resilience of the Maldives' agriculture sector and its economy in the face of climate challenges. The conference continues through Tuesday.
