On Saturday, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially merged the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy with the Ministry of Tourism, creating the new Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Thoriq Ibrahim was appointed to lead the newly formed ministry.
The appointment ceremony took place at the President’s Office, where Minister Thoriq took his oath of office before Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan. Afterward, President Dr. Muizzu handed Thoriq his ministerial appointment letter.
Following the ceremony, President Dr. Muizzu held a meeting with Minister Thoriq, where they discussed the importance of an integrated approach to promote the Maldives. The President emphasized the need to highlight the connection between the country’s environmental heritage and its thriving tourism industry.
This restructuring comes just days after the dismissal of the former Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal, who had held the position since November 2023. The President's Office did not provide further details on Faisal’s sudden removal from office.
