Housing for All: President Muizzu’s Commitment to Maldivians’ Future

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on citizens to take full advantage of the housing opportunities available under his administration. Speaking at a rally in HA. Molhadhoo on Thursday, President Muizzu emphasized housing as his government’s top priority, particularly addressing the severe housing shortage in the capital.

Since taking office in 2023, President Muizzu has been committed to solving the housing crisis, a central promise from his campaign. He reiterated his goal to ensure that no Maldivian citizen would be without a home by the end of his five-year term.

The president outlined several initiatives, including public housing schemes, and options for people to build homes on their own land. He also highlighted a new Islamic finance housing scheme launched in November 2024, offering soft loans with a 5% interest rate and loans of up to MVR 1 million for island residents to build homes. With no equity required, the loans come with affordable repayment terms.

“I urge you all to make use of this opportunity,” President Muizzu said, expressing hope that loan disbursement will begin by June or July 2025.
