Maldives President Sends Warm Greetings for Chinese New Year

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended his heartfelt greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, marking the occasion of the Spring Festival and the Chinese New Year. In separate letters sent on Wednesday, President Muizzu conveyed the best wishes of the Maldivian government and people to their counterparts in China, celebrating the shared joy of the season.

The Maldivian leader also shared his wishes on his official X account, hoping that the new year brings prosperity, health, and happiness to China. He expressed the Maldives’ deep appreciation for the close and enduring relationship with China, a bond built on mutual respect and common aspirations. President Muizzu voiced confidence that the partnership between the two nations would continue to grow, benefiting both sides in the coming year.

In his messages, the President reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to the One-China Principle and emphasized the importance of strengthening the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. He further expressed hopes for continued progress and prosperity for China’s leadership and its citizens.

The Maldives and China have enjoyed strong ties since they established diplomatic relations on October 14, 1972. President Muizzu’s state visit to China in 2024 solidified this relationship, resulting in the signing of 20 agreements, including the development of the Maldives' largest housing project. The two countries have also implemented a Free Trade Agreement.
