The air quality in Vilimale’ and the greater Male’ area has hit alarming levels, according to the recent report from the Air Quality Monitoring System. As of now, Vilimale's air quality index stands at 156, a level that poses significant health risks.
Over the past few days, the air quality in Male' has been deteriorating. The Health Protection Agency has issued a series of precautions, advising the public to minimize outdoor activities. People are urged to stay indoors, wear masks if they must go outside, and ensure windows and doors are shut to prevent polluted air from entering homes. Vulnerable groups such as those with lung or heart diseases, pregnant women, children, and the elderly are particularly at risk and should avoid outdoor exposure.
Elsewhere in the country, air quality in Shaviyani Atoll and Laamu Atoll remains less critical but still concerning, with indices of 76 and 82, respectively. Sensitive individuals in these areas are advised to take precautions when outdoors.
