The Maldives' wellness tourism sector has reached a major milestone, now valued at USD 1 billion (MVR 15 billion), according to the report The Global Wellness Economy: Maldives, published by the Global Wellness Institute in collaboration with JOALI BEING. Including spas and other wellness services, the sector’s total worth rises to USD 1.6 billion (MVR 25 billion).
The spa market alone is valued at USD 448 million (MVR 6.9 billion), while personal care and beauty contribute USD 135 million (MVR 2.1 billion). Over the last five years, wellness tourism has grown by 52%, with a 35% increase recorded in 2023.
Despite the global wellness economy reaching USD 6.3 trillion, the Maldives now ranks 57th in the sector, highlighting its rising importance in the global wellness tourism market. The growth signals a thriving industry with increasing demand for wellness-related services.
