Aasandha Health Insurance Now Includes Thailand and UAE Hospitals

The Maldives has expanded its Aasandha health insurance scheme to include hospitals in Thailand and the UAE, marking a significant enhancement to healthcare options for its citizens. Previously, Aasandha coverage was limited to select hospitals in India and Sri Lanka. In December, agreements were signed with Burjeel Medical City in the UAE, as well as World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Thailand, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to improve healthcare access.

Starting Wednesday, patients will be referred to these hospitals under the same conditions as those for current overseas treatments. Priority will be given to those needing kidney transplants without a family donor, and patients who have not seen improvement after treatment in India or Sri Lanka will be redirected to hospitals in Thailand or the UAE.
The government is also working to further expand Aasandha's coverage to additional countries and to revamp the entire insurance scheme, aiming to provide better healthcare services for all Maldivians.
