Road Development Corporation (RDC) has begun repair work on Ameenee Magu, starting with the section in front of Maafannu Stadium, which has been affected by potholes and damage. RDC employees were seen digging up the road yesterday, with plans to level the street and lay fresh asphalt.
Ameenee Magu was initially constructed by RDC in 2022 during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, with an MVR 84 million budget allocated for the project. However, the road faced criticism due to allegations of low-quality materials and concerns over the project’s cost.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had previously announced plans for major road reconstruction in Male’ and ViliMale’, funded through a Chinese grant. Last year, a technical team from China conducted a feasibility study to address ongoing issues like flooding. Minister of Construction, Infrastructure and Housing, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, emphasized that the upcoming roadworks would offer a long-term solution to these challenges.
