The aftermath of Thursday’s devastating fire has led to the temporary relocation of three government ministries to the Dharubaaruge convention centre. The fire, which began early in the morning, severely damaged the building housing the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. The nearby 'Green Building,' home to the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, also suffered damage.
As a result, the operations and services of these ministries were temporarily suspended. To maintain essential services, authorities are now transferring the ministries’ functions to Dharubaaruge. The Housing Ministry confirmed that temporary setups are being arranged to ensure the swift resumption of work.
In addition to the disruption to government services, the relocation has caused the postponement of several key events scheduled at Dharubaaruge, including the Fishermen's Day celebration and the Rehendhi Awards ceremony.
Though the fire resulted in significant property damage, including the loss of equipment and documents, no injuries were reported. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has maintained a presence at the site, remaining vigilant for any potential flare-ups. The fire, which began at approximately 6:27 a.m., was fully contained after five hours of effort by fire and rescue teams.
