Japan Donates $2.2 Million to Support Anti-Corruption Efforts in the Maldives

In a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan has committed a grant of 300 million Japanese Yen (approximately USD 2.2 million) to strengthen the Maldives’ efforts to combat corruption. The Exchange of Notes was signed by Japan's Ambassador to the Maldives, Mrs. TAKEUCHI Midori, and the Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel.

The grant aims to enhance the mobility of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), enabling the agency to respond more effectively to corruption allegations throughout the geographically diverse islands of the Maldives. With the assistance, the ACC will receive 14 cars and 2 vessels, which will help improve operational efficiency and ensure timely investigations.

This support reflects Japan’s ongoing commitment to the Maldives’ fight against corruption and the goal of building a future where integrity thrives across the country. By providing this essential mobility equipment, Japan hopes to empower the ACC to carry out its important work with greater speed and accountability.
