Meet Chef Nabbe, The One & Only Man Behind The Unfathomable Unique Taste From Kiwi Bakers!

Normally, when we place an order for food, we would notice that one person takes down the order while another prepares the food whereas a third person completes the delivery. At Kiwi Bakers, however, Chef Nabbe does it all, and just by himself!

Mohamed Nabeel, well-known as ‘Chef Nabbe’ amongst locals, as he describes it was “born and raised in the kitchen”, by his Mama and our favorite baker, Nashee. Being exposed to this environment since such a young age, Nabbe, developed a strong fondness towards cooking and began to harness culinary skills and trickery. After attending Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies at the Maldives National University, Nabbe began his journey as a professional chef, in 2011 – in his own kitchen at the comfort of his home. At that time, he continued to make food for order in a small-scale amongst other works such as being a food consultant to interested parties, collaboration projects with others etc which he still continues to do so.

A few years later, in 2015, he made his biggest break as an established professional chef with the launch of Kiwi Bakers. At inception, Kiwi Bakers was powered by Nashee Cakes, however, at present words which would best describe Kiwi Bakers is as its ‘own standing kitchen’, humbly at public service.

When we dwelled into the contents of the menu of Kiwi Bakers, we learned that even from the very start, all the dishes were of recipes created from scratch by Nabbe, himself. The menu itself, has a variety of Italian origins, rice & noodle dishes in addition to burgers and sandwiches. No doubt, the most popular item on the menu is the Italian varieties, specifically, the Lasagna. 

According to Nabbe, the trick to infusing a unique taste to dishes you can even find elsewhere is by personally going and experiencing the same dish from a variety of places and constructing a taste to it which will distinguish it from the rest. We must say though, we affirm this testament by Chef Nabbe, as we personally had the chance to indulge ourselves in a scrumptious Chicken Shawarma, which was specially prepared for us by him. Within mere minutes, and use of minimal ingredients, Nabbe, created something which we really could match to elsewhere. The secret to it as we see it, is the amazingly blended sauces that perfectly complement the veggies and chicken wrapped in the flatbread, giving it a spicy yet flavorsome kick. Might I even say, the sauce was just finger-lickin' good! Nabbe notes the inspiration behind the launch of ‘The Netflix of Healthy Food’ is to ease the burden of having to cook your own healthy meals while juggling a busy schedule.

Discussing future ventures for Kiwi Bakers, the opening of a dine-in outlet that will specialize in Italian cuisine was hinted at. In his personal ventures, Nabbe, hopes to begin teaching young kids culinary skills as he firmly believes in instilling such a life necessity starting from a young age, just as he grew up. Furthermore, he strives to become the best and stand on the same ground as his mother but in own way, in the future. Nabbe is extremely grateful towards everyone who has supported him and continues to do so in his journey, especially his mother and his children.
