Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is moving forward with a significant plan to develop cruise liner terminals in four strategic locations across the Maldives. The terminals will be built in HA. Uligan, L. Fonadhoo, Addu City, and the Male' Area. According to Aneel Adam, MPL's Research and Development Consultant, the project is backed by technical experts, and feasibility studies are being conducted in collaboration with a Greek firm.
Aneel expressed optimism about the project's success, highlighting that plans for the Male' area terminal are already finalized. Construction will begin at the Male' Commercial Harbor once operations are moved to the industrial island of Thilafushi. The new terminals will address the growing demand from cruise tourists, who have long highlighted the need for designated docking facilities.
