Maldives Issues White Alert for Strong Winds and Rough Seas

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a White Alert across the country due to strong winds and rough seas. Winds are expected to range from 19 to 24 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. The public is urged to exercise caution, especially those traveling by sea.

The adverse weather is forecasted to persist for the next two days, with the southern atolls expected to face the worst conditions. The weather has been intensified by a storm in the Bay of Bengal, which has developed into a cyclone.

This period marks the transition to the northeast monsoon season in the Maldives, which begins in December. The season typically brings rough seas and more frequent rain, contributing to the ongoing unsettled weather.
