Mohamed Mabrook Azeez To Fill The Shoes Of Spokesperson At The President’s Office

On 1st January 2021, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih created a Spokesperson’s position at the President’s Office whereas yesterday, he had appointed Mr. Mohamed Mabrook Azeez to the post.

The appointment comes at a Deputy Ministerial Level. Prior to this, the responsibilities of a Spokesperson which was being handled by the President’s Office Chief Communication Strategist, Mr. Ibrahim Hood, shall now be directed to Mr. Mabrook. Such responsibilities will mainly range from all inquiries related to media and communications. 

Mr. Mabrook completed his graduate studies in the field of political science and public speaking. Prior to the structural change, he was serving in the capacity of an Undersecretary at the President’s Office. Last year, he has won the heart of almost all locals as the Spokesperson for the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) which was established shortly after the coronavirus was detected in the country in order to oversee and manage the national response to the pandemic. He was highly praised for executing his role extremely well; being present in almost all of NEOC's daily press conferences to brief the public regarding the latest developments regarding the pandemic. 

Apart from this, he also contested for Vaavu Atoll’s Felidhoo constituency in the last parliamentary elections on the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s ticket, but narrowly lost the seat.
