Budget Allocates Billions for Key Infrastructure Projects

Finance Minister Moosa Zameer announced that the Maldives government will implement a range of development projects next year, based on a priority list set by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Zameer emphasized that projects will span across all islands, cities, and Malé, with special attention to those that have been delayed due to budget constraints in the past.

"I assure you that every island is included in the current list. We aim to launch projects across all islands, cities, and in Malé next year," he stated.

The 2024 budget allocates 12.4 billion rufiyaa for public sector investment projects (PSIP), with 3 billion rufiyaa earmarked for new government-initiated projects. Housing takes the largest share of 1.5 billion rufiyaa, followed by 600 million for airports and 222 million for health sector improvements. Zameer reassured Parliament that, as funds become available, detailed information on individual projects will be released.
