President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially launched the National Teacher Training Programme at the Maldives National University (MNU) Auditorium. The ceremony, attended by Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu and other officials, marked the beginning of an important educational initiative.
As part of this year's programme, 135 students received scholarships to pursue a degree in education, starting from Grade 11. The programme offers a monthly stipend of USD 97 and focuses on subjects with teacher shortages, ensuring the development of skilled local educators.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader "Thaiba" project, aimed at improving education quality in the Maldives. It also supports President Muizzu’s pledge to staff local schools with Maldivian teachers, funded by the Global Partnership for Education.
