The DATA (Destination Advancement Through Analytics) Forum 2024 marked a significant milestone for the travel industry as it was held for the first time in the Maldives on October 16, 2024. Jointly organized by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) and E-Tourism Frontiers, the event brought together influential figures from the global tourism data sector to discuss strategies for enhancing consumer engagement and operational efficiency.
Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO & MD of MMPRC, opened the forum with a warm welcome, emphasizing the necessity of data in the evolving travel landscape. Abdulla Giyas Riyaz, Chairperson of MMPRC, highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making in his address, noting that the travel industry must leverage data not just as an advantage but as a crucial component for success.
The forum featured presentations from leading tourism analytics companies, including speakers from E-Tourism Frontiers, Tourism Economics Oxford, and Booking.com. Topics ranged from global economic outlooks to the impact of user-generated content on travel decisions. Noteworthy presentations included Sarah Mathews of E-Tourism Frontiers discussing the omnipresence of data in travel, and Hu Binghan of Union Pay focusing on the revival of Chinese outbound tourism.
The afternoon sessions provided deep insights into predicting traveler behavior and measuring success through analytics. Experts like Olivier Ponti from ForwardKeys and Bharat Nagpal from Adara shared valuable strategies to enhance tourism offerings using data insights.
Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Bandos Maldives resort, the forum also showcased the Maldives' exceptional potential for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).
