In a significant development for the Maldives, Japan's Ambassador, Her Excellency TAKEUCHI Midori, officially presented the AgriBoat to His Excellency Mr. Adam Shareef Umar, Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, during a ceremony at Hulhumale Marina. This handover aligns with an agreement signed between the Government of Japan and UNDP Maldives in October 2021, forming part of the "Project for Developing Sustainable Agricultural Economy" (PDSAE), valued at USD 2.75 million (approximately Maldivian Rufiyya 42.4 million).
The AgriBoat, a 65-foot vessel designed to minimize post-harvest losses, will enhance the agricultural supply chain in the Maldives. Equipped with environmentally friendly technology and cold storage, it can transport large volumes of produce while maintaining optimal conditions. With a storage capacity of 35 square meters, it offers farmers greater access to markets and customers.
Japan remains committed to supporting the Maldives in building a sustainable and resilient economy, collaborating with international partners for a brighter agricultural future.
