Maldives Strengthens Drug Import Inspections Amid Quality Concerns

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has increased inspections at ports for imported medications due to recent quality concerns. This decision comes after India’s drug regulator, CDSCO, reported quality issues with 48 drugs produced in the country.

Following a market evaluation, the MFDA confirmed that none of the problematic medications identified by CDSCO have been imported through official channels into the Maldives.
However, the MFDA cautions the public to remain vigilant, as many Maldivians travel to India for medical treatment and may bring back medications for personal use.

To ensure safety, the MFDA is reinforcing inspections at drug-importing ports and taking necessary precautions to prevent unsafe medications from entering the country.

For further information about medications, the public can contact the MFDA at 7200321.
