The Cancer Society of Maldives (CSM) has teamed up with Dhiraagu to unveil a vital toolkit aimed at supporting children diagnosed with cancer. This initiative is part of Dhiraagu's commitment to raise cancer awareness in collaboration with CSM, with contributions from the Ministry of Education and UNICEF.
CSM emphasizes the significance of early detection and treatment, along with the critical role of schools and parents in supporting these young patients. The toolkit provides essential resources designed to assist children in navigating the challenges associated with cancer.
In addition to the toolkit, Dhiraagu plans to produce educational materials, including an animated song about cancer symptoms, stories from survivors, and a video series focused on the importance of early detection. Dhiraagu considers caring for children a cornerstone of its corporate social responsibility efforts, aiming to nurture a healthier environment for the youth.
As September marks International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, CSM points out that the Maldives has one of the highest rates of childhood cancer in Asia, with approximately 4-5% of the population under 18 currently receiving treatment.
