The Ministry of Education has kicked off information sessions on the National Teachers Training Programme for students. After engaging with those at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), the ministry plans to extend these sessions to other higher secondary schools this week.
This programme is designed for students who have completed secondary education, focusing on increasing the number of qualified teachers. The ministry will identify subjects and areas with teacher shortages to prioritize training.
A key part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge, the National Teachers Training Programme aims to ensure schools are staffed by local teachers. The official launch is set for October.
Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafiu highlighted the pressing issue of teacher shortages, noting the need for over 2,400 qualified educators, including 250 for primary grades, to strengthen the education system.
