Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has announced that 2,000 students will begin A’Level studies in public schools this year, marking a 77% increase from previous years. This rise is due to the government’s efforts to broaden access to higher education, reflecting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s focus on developing a skilled workforce.
At the Top Achiever's Award 2023-2024 ceremony, Dr. Shafeeu emphasized that the government has improved entry criteria and expanded opportunities to support this record enrollment. The A’Level program will now be available in 23 public schools, contingent on each school’s capacity.
To address the challenge of students not meeting traditional entry standards, the government has lowered requirements, allowing those who pass one or two subjects in secondary education to continue their studies. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to invest in youth skills and boost national productivity. The government is optimistic that these changes will enhance educational outcomes and contribute to the nation's economic growth.
