Malaysia and the Maldives have formalized a significant educational partnership through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), offering 561 scholarships to Maldivian students. The agreement, signed by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and the Maldivian Ministry of Higher Education, was celebrated at a ceremony held this morning.
EMGS, a state enterprise under Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, will facilitate the scholarships in six key areas: Arts and Humanities (75), Engineering and Technology (150), Life Sciences and Medicine (63), Natural Sciences (11), Social Sciences and Management (255), and Other Fields (7).
Dr. Maryam Mariya, the Maldivian Minister of Higher Education, highlighted the MoU as a remarkable opportunity for Maldivian students to access high-quality education and training. She emphasized that the agreement reflects the strong commitment of both nations to advancing educational collaboration and institutional development.
The scholarships not only cover tuition fees but also include support for visa processing and administrative arrangements, according to EMGS. Malaysia, already home to over 1,700 Maldivian students, continues to be a popular destination for higher education, and this new agreement further strengthens educational ties between the two countries.
