Discussions have commenced regarding the development of sports fishing harbors in five key regions of the Maldives. The talks involved Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam and Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal.
During the meeting, Minister Shiyam outlined the proposed locations for these new harbors and assured that the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources would offer expert assistance to support the Ministry of Tourism in this initiative.
Minister Faisal emphasized the Tourism Ministry's commitment to facilitating and accelerating the project. This initiative is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s broader strategy to advance the fisheries sector and is included in the government’s manifesto.
The project aims to cater to the growing interest in sports fishing, particularly among the youth. It is expected to be implemented following President Muizzu’s policy, which prioritizes the development of mariculture and increasing domestic production.
By developing these harbors, the government seeks to enhance both the fisheries and tourism sectors. This expansion is anticipated to provide significant benefits, including increased opportunities for sports fishing enthusiasts and boosted economic activity in the targeted regions.
