The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is exploring the possibility of establishing a resident mission in the Maldives, as revealed during a recent visit by ADB Executive Director Dr. Justine Diokno-Sicat. Dr. Diokno-Sicat engaged with Maldivian officials, including Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, to discuss enhancing the country’s financial sector and ongoing fiscal reforms.
The three-day visit involved multiple meetings with key government figures. Notably, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib outlined the government’s vision for infrastructure growth, providing updates on current projects and their associated financial hurdles.
Since joining the ADB in 1978, the Maldives has benefited from significant financial and technical support for various development initiatives.
The proposed resident mission aims to further strengthen the partnership and address evolving challenges in the region.
